Bagpipe Lover is a romantic short story about bagpipes, music and romance by Rob Hopcott.
After playing his piece at a folk music session, the piper glances in the direction of the bar. What he sees there transfixes him. If previously he didn’t believe in coup de foudre or love at first sight, he does now.
After spending the rest of the evening quietly watching her being feted by several other men and, disappointingly, seeing she is married, the bagpipe player leaves the pub to return home.
Unexpectedly, in the quiet lane, as our musician stands by his car watching the bright stars in the night sky, he is joined by the lady in the bar. Although they are strangers, they embrace as if they had always been lovers but when she has to depart almost immediately but with a promise that they will meet again, she refuses to give her name.
The story ends on a hopeful and happy note but the mystery of who is this new lover is unresolved. This short story romance is to be continued.
